Compounding For People

Compounding is the art and science of preparing custom medications. Each patient is different, and not everyone responds to traditional treatments the same way. Pharmacy compounding allows us to create different dosages strength medicines are not offered by the manufacturer Creating customized medications for our patients plays a very important role in providing quality health care.

The basis of the profession of pharmacy has always been the "triad," the patient-physician-pharmacist relationship.

A patient's needs are determined by a physician, who chooses a treatment that may include a compounded medication. Physicians often prescribe compounded medications for reasons that include (but are not limited to) the following situations:

  • A medication has been discontinued or is unavailable
  • If a patient has allergic reactions to certain preservatives, dyes or binders
  • Dosage strengths for patients with unique needs (for example, an infant)
  • Medications that require flavor additives to make them more palatable for some patients, most often children.
